Surveillance in Queensland

Surveillance in Queensland

When you need to know what is actually happening rather than what you are being told, surveillance is the tool that settles the question. Our operatives run covert surveillance across Queensland and produce a record you can rely on: continuous notes, time stamped footage and a written report that reads clearly to somebody who was never there. If the answer is that you do not need us, we will tell you that.

Queensland is a state of more than five million people built on mining, tourism, agriculture, construction and resources logistics. Call 1300 773 293 at any hour, or read on for how we handle surveillance here.

Common situations we see in Queensland

  • A former partner is breaching a parenting arrangement
  • A business partner may be running a competing operation
  • Stock, tools or takings are going missing and you do not know who is responsible
  • You need to know who a family member is spending time with
  • An insurance claim does not match the claimant’s daily activity
  • A vehicle keeps appearing near your home or workplace

Working in Queensland

Covering Queensland means working from the South East corner north through the Wide Bay, Central Queensland and the Far North. Distance is the main constraint, so we plan around it: we confirm the ground before an operative is committed, and we tell you when travel time is going to make a job uneconomic rather than billing you for a day in a car.

We work regularly across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Cairns and Toowoomba, and we travel further into Queensland where a matter calls for it.

How the work is actually done in Queensland

  1. We take a full brief, including the subject description, vehicles, addresses and the pattern you have noticed
  2. We agree the days, hours and budget before anybody goes out, so there are no surprises
  3. Where a job runs several days we rotate vehicles and operatives so nothing becomes familiar
  4. Footage and stills are captured where it is lawful and useful to do so
  5. We stand down early and tell you when a session is producing nothing of value
  6. A written report is delivered with an indexed log and the supporting media

The cost of surveillance in Queensland

We would rather talk about money early than surprise you later. Surveillance is charged by the hour with a minimum engagement, plus travel where the job takes us outside Queensland. The real cost driver is not the hourly rate, it is how many hours are wasted watching nothing. We will tell you honestly if we think the pattern you have described means a shorter, better targeted window will get you the same answer for less. You can stop at any review point. We do not lock people into blocks they no longer need.

Surveillance and the law in Queensland

It is worth being clear about the legal position. Surveillance in a public place is generally lawful in Queensland. What is tightly controlled is the use of devices. The Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 (Qld) governs listening devices, optical devices, tracking devices and data surveillance, and it sets out when a device may and may not be used. We work strictly inside those limits, because evidence gathered outside them is worthless to you and creates a problem you did not have before. If we are asked to do something that falls outside those rules, we will say no and explain why, and we will suggest a lawful way at the same problem.

This is general information rather than legal advice. If your matter is already before a court, speak to your solicitor about what evidence will assist and we will work to that brief.

About our agency

Before you hand over anything sensitive, here is who we are. Sydney Private Investigations has been operating since 2002 and trades as GORA Investigations Pty Ltd, ABN 34 600 932 438. We hold NSW Master Licence 412080174 and VIC Master Licence Z6583160S. Work in Queensland is conducted in accordance with the Security Providers Act 1993 (Qld), administered by the Office of Fair Trading, and where a locally licensed operative is required we engage one rather than cutting a corner.

You will deal with the same people from the first call to the final report. Nothing gets handed to a stranger halfway through.

Frequently asked questions

Is surveillance legal in Queensland?

Observing a person in a public place is generally lawful. The restrictions apply to devices. The Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 (Qld) sets out the rules for listening devices, cameras, trackers and data surveillance, and we operate inside them at all times.

Will the person know they are being watched?

No. Covert surveillance only works if it stays covert. Our operatives use unmarked vehicles, change position and rotate where a job runs over several days.

Can I use the footage in court?

Evidence gathered lawfully and documented properly is generally admissible. We record continuously, keep the original files unaltered and can supply a statement from the operative if a matter proceeds.

Do you cover regional areas outside Queensland?

Yes. We travel throughout Queensland and charge travel separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

How quickly can you start?

For most jobs in Queensland we can deploy within twenty four to forty eight hours, and sooner for urgent matters.
