Bug Sweeping in Queensland

Bug Sweeping in Queensland

If you have the feeling that somebody knows things they should not, there is often a reason for it. We conduct technical surveillance counter measures across Queensland, sweeping homes, offices, boardrooms and vehicles for listening devices, hidden cameras, trackers and unauthorised transmitters. If the answer is that you do not need us, we will tell you that.

Queensland is a state of more than five million people built on mining, tourism, agriculture, construction and resources logistics. Call 1300 773 293 at any hour, or read on for how we handle bug sweeping here.

Common situations we see in Queensland

  • A former partner seems to know details you have only spoken about at home
  • You have found an unfamiliar device or cable and cannot explain it
  • A rental property or short stay accommodation feels wrong
  • An employee has left under bad terms and had access to your premises
  • You are about to hold a sensitive board or legal meeting
  • A device has appeared in a shared vehicle

Working in Queensland

Covering Queensland means working from the South East corner north through the Wide Bay, Central Queensland and the Far North. Distance is the main constraint, so we plan around it: we confirm the ground before an operative is committed, and we tell you when travel time is going to make a job uneconomic rather than billing you for a day in a car.

We work regularly across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Cairns and Toowoomba, and we travel further into Queensland where a matter calls for it.

How the work is actually done in Queensland

  1. We discuss the situation and identify which spaces genuinely need sweeping
  2. We attend discreetly, often outside business hours, so the sweep itself is not advertised
  3. We photograph and document anything found in place before it is touched
  4. Network and line checks are conducted where relevant
  5. We advise on which conversations to keep out of the space until it is cleared
  6. You receive a written report on what was found, what was cleared and what to do next

The cost of bug sweeping in Queensland

We would rather talk about money early than surprise you later. Sweeps are quoted by the number and size of the areas to be covered. A single vehicle or a home office in Queensland is a straightforward fixed fee. A full commercial premises takes longer and is quoted after a short scoping conversation. Travel outside Queensland is charged separately. You can stop at any review point. We do not lock people into blocks they no longer need.

Bug Sweeping and the law in Queensland

It is worth being clear about the legal position. The use of listening and optical devices is controlled in Queensland by the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 (Qld), and installing one to record a private conversation you are not part of is generally a criminal offence. If we locate a device, we advise you on preserving it properly rather than pulling it out, because how it is handled affects whether it can be used later in a police complaint or a court matter. If we are asked to do something that falls outside those rules, we will say no and explain why, and we will suggest a lawful way at the same problem.

This is general information rather than legal advice. If your matter is already before a court, speak to your solicitor about what evidence will assist and we will work to that brief.

About our agency

Anybody can claim experience. Here is what can be verified. Sydney Private Investigations has been operating since 2002 and trades as GORA Investigations Pty Ltd, ABN 34 600 932 438. We hold NSW Master Licence 412080174 and VIC Master Licence Z6583160S. Work in Queensland is conducted in accordance with the Security Providers Act 1993 (Qld), administered by the Office of Fair Trading, and where a locally licensed operative is required we engage one rather than cutting a corner.

We are not a call centre that farms work out to whoever answers. You speak to an investigator, and if we cannot help we will say so rather than take a deposit.

Frequently asked questions

What can you actually detect?

Radio transmitting bugs, GSM and mobile based listening devices, hidden cameras including wired and battery units, GPS trackers on vehicles, and recording devices found by physical search.

Should I tell my staff about the sweep?

Usually not. If somebody inside the organisation is responsible, advance warning gives them time to remove the device and reinstall it later.

Can you sweep a car?

Yes. Vehicle sweeps are one of the most common requests we get, particularly where a tracker is suspected.

How long does a sweep take?

A vehicle or a single room takes about an hour. A house or a small office is usually half a day. Larger commercial premises take longer.

Is a phone app enough to find a bug?

No. Consumer apps do not reliably detect anything and give false confidence. Proper detection needs calibrated equipment and a physical search.
