Corporate Investigations in Queensland
If you are here, you have probably already tried the obvious things. When something is wrong inside a business in Queensland, the cost of getting the investigation wrong is often higher than the original loss. An unfair dismissal claim or a defamation letter can follow a badly handled internal enquiry. We do this work properly. The first conversation is free and nothing is committed in it.
Queensland is a state of more than five million people built on mining, tourism, agriculture, construction and resources logistics. Call 1300 773 293 at any hour, or read on for how we handle corporate investigations here.
Common situations we see in Queensland
- An employee on leave or workers compensation may be working elsewhere
- A supplier relationship shows signs of kickbacks or collusion
- Confidential information appears to be reaching a competitor
- A workplace complaint requires an independent factual investigation
- A whistleblower report needs independent verification
- A franchise or licensee may be breaching their agreement
Working in Queensland
Covering Queensland means working from the South East corner north through the Wide Bay, Central Queensland and the Far North. Distance is the main constraint, so we plan around it: we confirm the ground before an operative is committed, and we tell you when travel time is going to make a job uneconomic rather than billing you for a day in a car.
We work regularly across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Cairns and Toowoomba, and we travel further into Queensland where a matter calls for it.
How the work is actually done in Queensland
- We meet with you, and usually your lawyer, to define the question and the risks
- Evidence is gathered using the appropriate mix of surveillance, records analysis and enquiry
- We keep working papers in a form your lawyer can review
- Findings are documented as they are established rather than assembled at the end
- We report factually and separate what is proven from what is suspected
- We brief you at agreed intervals rather than disappearing until the end
The cost of corporate investigations in Queensland
You should know the number before you commit to anything. Commercial matters are scoped and quoted rather than run open ended. For most engagements in Queensland we propose a staged approach with a review point, so you can stop once you have what you need instead of funding an investigation that has outlived its purpose. Where a matter turns out to be simpler than expected, the invoice reflects that.
Corporate Investigations and the law in Queensland
There is a lot of nonsense online about what an investigator may do, so here is the accurate version. Workplace investigations sit inside employment law, privacy law and the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 (Qld) in Queensland. Monitoring employees, in particular, is subject to real limits. We advise on what can be done lawfully before anything starts, and we keep the evidence chain clean so that findings survive scrutiny in a tribunal or a court. An investigator who offers to step over that line is telling you they will break the law on your behalf, which should worry you rather than reassure you.
This is general information rather than legal advice. If your matter is already before a court, speak to your solicitor about what evidence will assist and we will work to that brief.
About our agency
It is a reasonable thing to ask, so here are our details. Sydney Private Investigations has been operating since 2002 and trades as GORA Investigations Pty Ltd, ABN 34 600 932 438. We hold NSW Master Licence 412080174 and VIC Master Licence Z6583160S. Work in Queensland is conducted in accordance with the Security Providers Act 1993 (Qld), administered by the Office of Fair Trading, and where a locally licensed operative is required we engage one rather than cutting a corner.
There is no obligation attached to the first conversation, and no pressure applied in it.
Frequently asked questions
Will your findings survive a tribunal?
That is the point of doing it properly. We document contemporaneously, keep original material intact and provide statements where needed.
Do you work directly with our lawyers?
Frequently. Where legal privilege matters, being engaged through your solicitor can be the better structure and we are comfortable working that way.
What about workers compensation claims?
Surveillance of claimants is common and lawful when conducted in public and documented correctly. We produce material that insurers and courts accept.
How do you keep it confidential inside the business?
We limit contact to the smallest possible group, attend outside hours where needed and never identify ourselves to staff.
Can you do pre employment and due diligence checks?
Yes. Corporate searches, directorship histories, litigation records and identity verification are standard parts of our commercial work.
