What the law allows in New South Wales

The legal boundaries matter, and a good investigator will raise them before you do. Observation in a public place is generally lawful. Devices are what the law controls. In New South Wales the Surveillance Devices Act 2007 (NSW) governs listening devices, optical devices, tracking devices and data surveillance, and licensing of investigators falls under the Security Industry Act 1997 (NSW), administered by the Security Licensing and Enforcement Directorate. Doing it properly is slower on some jobs. It is also the only version that survives contact with a courtroom.
