Corporate Investigations in Brisbane
If you are here, you have probably already tried the obvious things. When something is wrong inside a business in Brisbane, the cost of getting the investigation wrong is often higher than the original loss. An unfair dismissal claim or a defamation letter can follow a badly handled internal enquiry. We do this work properly. The first conversation is free and nothing is committed in it.
Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and the third largest city in Australia. Call 1300 773 293 at any hour, or read on for how we handle corporate investigations here.
Reasons people in Brisbane get in touch
- An employee on leave or workers compensation may be working elsewhere
- A supplier relationship shows signs of kickbacks or collusion
- You need due diligence on a party before an acquisition
- Confidential information appears to be reaching a competitor
- A director may be in breach of their duties
- A whistleblower report needs independent verification
What Brisbane is like to work in
Working in Brisbane means understanding a river city of low density suburbs where most movement happens by car. Our operatives plan around that rather than turning up and hoping. Where a matter runs across several days we rotate vehicles and positions so that a familiar car never becomes part of the scenery.
We work regularly across Ipswich, Logan, Redcliffe, Chermside, Mount Gravatt, Indooroopilly and Cleveland, and we travel further into Queensland where a matter calls for it.
What happens once you engage us in Brisbane
- We meet with you, and usually your lawyer, to define the question and the risks
- Evidence is gathered using the appropriate mix of surveillance, records analysis and enquiry
- We keep working papers in a form your lawyer can review
- We report factually and separate what is proven from what is suspected
- We brief you at agreed intervals rather than disappearing until the end
- Where required we provide statements and attend proceedings
Fees and how we charge
You should know the number before you commit to anything. Commercial matters are scoped and quoted rather than run open ended. For most engagements in Brisbane we propose a staged approach with a review point, so you can stop once you have what you need instead of funding an investigation that has outlived its purpose. Where a matter turns out to be simpler than expected, the invoice reflects that.
Corporate Investigations and the law in Queensland
There is a lot of nonsense online about what an investigator may do, so here is the accurate version. Workplace investigations sit inside employment law, privacy law and the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 (Qld) in Queensland. Monitoring employees, in particular, is subject to real limits. We advise on what can be done lawfully before anything starts, and we keep the evidence chain clean so that findings survive scrutiny in a tribunal or a court. An investigator who offers to step over that line is telling you they will break the law on your behalf, which should worry you rather than reassure you.
This is general information rather than legal advice. If your matter is already before a court, speak to your solicitor about what evidence will assist and we will work to that brief.
Who we are
Anybody can claim experience. Here is what can be verified. Sydney Private Investigations has been operating since 2001 and trades as GORA Investigations Pty Ltd, ABN 34 600 932 438. We hold NSW Master Licence 412080174 and VIC Master Licence Z6583160S. Work in Queensland is conducted in accordance with the Security Providers Act 1993 (Qld), administered by the Office of Fair Trading, and where a locally licensed operative is required we engage one rather than cutting a corner.
We are not a call centre that farms work out to whoever answers. You speak to an investigator, and if we cannot help we will say so rather than take a deposit.
Frequently asked questions
Will your findings survive a tribunal?
That is the point of doing it properly. We document contemporaneously, keep original material intact and provide statements where needed.
Do you work directly with our lawyers?
Frequently. Where legal privilege matters, being engaged through your solicitor can be the better structure and we are comfortable working that way.
What about workers compensation claims?
Surveillance of claimants is common and lawful when conducted in public and documented correctly. We produce material that insurers and courts accept.
How do you keep it confidential inside the business?
We limit contact to the smallest possible group, attend outside hours where needed and never identify ourselves to staff.
Can you do pre employment and due diligence checks?
Yes. Corporate searches, directorship histories, litigation records and identity verification are standard parts of our commercial work.
