Background Checks in Brisbane

Background Checks in Brisbane

We run background checks for people across Brisbane who have a decision to make and an uneasy feeling about the person on the other side of it. What we produce is a plain summary of what the record actually shows, including the gaps. You will not be judged for asking, and you will not be pressured into proceeding.

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and the third largest city in Australia. Call 1300 773 293 at any hour, or read on for how we handle background checks here.

Why people in Brisbane call us

  • A new business partner has made claims you cannot verify
  • You are considering an investment and the promoter is unfamiliar
  • A prospective tenant has given references that feel rehearsed
  • You need to know whether a company is solvent before signing
  • A carer or tutor will be spending unsupervised time with your family
  • A charity or fund is asking for a significant contribution

On the ground in Brisbane

Working in Brisbane means understanding a river city of low density suburbs where most movement happens by car. Our operatives plan around that rather than turning up and hoping. Where a matter runs across several days we rotate vehicles and positions so that a familiar car never becomes part of the scenery.

We work regularly across Ipswich, Logan, Redcliffe, Chermside, Mount Gravatt, Indooroopilly and Cleveland, and we travel further into Queensland where a matter calls for it.

How we run background checks in Brisbane

  1. You give us everything you already have, including names, dates of birth, addresses and any documents
  2. We confirm identity first, because every later search depends on getting that right
  3. We search corporate records, business registrations and directorships
  4. Where a record is ambiguous we say so instead of rounding it up into a finding
  5. We search the open web and archived material for the person’s own trail
  6. You receive a written report that separates what is confirmed from what is unconfirmed

Background Checks and the law in Queensland

People ask about the law here more than anything else, so here it is plainly. Background checking is legitimate research, but it is bounded by privacy law and by the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 (Qld) where any form of monitoring is involved. We work from public and lawfully obtainable records. We do not access private databases we have no right to, and we will tell you plainly when something you have asked for cannot be obtained lawfully. Doing it properly is slower on some jobs. It is also the only version that survives contact with a courtroom.

This is general information rather than legal advice. If your matter is already before a court, speak to your solicitor about what evidence will assist and we will work to that brief.

What you will pay

Nobody enjoys asking what this costs, so we will get to it first. Background checks are quoted as a fixed fee for a defined scope, so you know the number before we start. A simple identity and corporate check is inexpensive. A full history including property, litigation and asset tracing across Queensland costs more because it takes considerably longer. If we think a smaller job will answer your question, we will propose the smaller job.

Who you are dealing with

Before you hand over anything sensitive, here is who we are. Sydney Private Investigations has been operating since 2001 and trades as GORA Investigations Pty Ltd, ABN 34 600 932 438. We hold NSW Master Licence 412080174 and VIC Master Licence Z6583160S. Work in Queensland is conducted in accordance with the Security Providers Act 1993 (Qld), administered by the Office of Fair Trading, and where a locally licensed operative is required we engage one rather than cutting a corner.

You will deal with the same people from the first call to the final report. Nothing gets handed to a stranger halfway through.

Frequently asked questions

Can you check somebody’s criminal history?

A national police check can only be obtained with the person’s consent through an accredited body. What we can do is search publicly reported court matters and tell you what is on the open record.

Is it legal to run a check on somebody without telling them?

Searching public records is lawful. Where consent is legally required, such as a formal police check, we will tell you and we will not pretend otherwise.

How long does it take?

A basic check in Brisbane is usually turned around in one to three business days. A complex matter with assets across Queensland takes longer.

What if you find nothing?

That is a result too, and we say so plainly. An empty record is useful information and we do not invent findings to justify a fee.

Do you check businesses as well as individuals?

Yes. Company searches, directorship histories, related entities and solvency indicators are a standard part of our commercial work.
