If you are here, you have probably already tried the obvious things. Sydney Private Investigations has been investigating since 2002. We work throughout Hobart, the capital of Tasmania and the smallest capital city on the mainland network, and across the wider Tasmania region. Working in Hobart
Working in Hobart means understanding a river city where the two shores are joined by a small number of bridges. Our operatives plan around that rather than turning up and hoping. Where a matter runs across several days we rotate vehicles and positions so that a familiar car never becomes part of the scenery.
We regularly work across Glenorchy, Kingston, Sandy Bay, Bellerive, New Norfolk and Sorell.
Investigation law in Tasmania
Before anything starts, you should understand what is and is not permitted. Observation in a public place is generally lawful. Devices are what the law controls. In Tasmania the Listening Devices Act 1991 (Tas) governs listening devices, optical devices, tracking devices and data surveillance, and licensing of investigators falls under the Security and Investigation Agents Act 2002 (Tas), administered by the Department of Justice. If we are asked to do something that falls outside those rules, we will say no and explain why, and we will suggest a lawful way at the same problem.
About our agency
A few facts about us, so you can check them. Sydney Private Investigations has been operating since 2002 and trades as GORA Investigations Pty Ltd, ABN 34 600 932 438. We hold NSW Master Licence 412080174 and VIC Master Licence Z6583160S. Work in Tasmania is conducted in accordance with the Security and Investigation Agents Act 2002 (Tas), administered by the Department of Justice, and where a locally licensed operative is required we engage one rather than cutting a corner.
If your matter really belongs with police or with a solicitor, we will tell you that instead of selling you surveillance.
Frequently asked questions
Will anybody know I hired an investigator?
No. Our work is covert, our vehicles are unmarked and we report only to you, using whatever contact method you tell us is safe.
Can I use what you find in court?
Material gathered lawfully and documented properly is generally admissible. We keep original files unaltered and can provide a statement from the operative if a matter proceeds.
What if you cannot help me?
We will say so. There are matters that belong with police, with a lawyer or with nobody at all, and we would rather tell you that than take your money.
Are you licensed to operate here?
We hold NSW Master Licence 412080174 and VIC Master Licence Z6583160S and trade as GORA Investigations Pty Ltd, ABN 34 600 932 438. Where work in Tasmania requires a locally licensed operative we engage one.
Do I have to come into an office?
No. Most of our clients never meet us in person. Briefings happen by phone and reports are delivered the way you ask for them.
